Kumaka* photographs the beauty of the world, in views that isolate its formal elements. His style is very much in the tradition of Ansel Adams, but Kumaka shoots color, not black and white. "It's harder to do serious photography in color than in B&W," Kumaka says, "especially outside the studio. Color adds a different and intrusive dimension that constantly challenges the photographer to do something more than produce a snapshot of what she or he sees."
Kumaka meets that challenge with photographs that combine classical composition with the life of the moment. The two examples below are, we hope, the first of many we will be offering in our store.
